Davidson – “Harley”

By: Kristina McCombie

HH: Tell us about your horse, Davidson.

AW:  “Davidson” is a 6-year-old American bred WB, out of Cabana owned by Patrick Rodes. He was purchased in January from Colleen McQuay by Dana Vollbracht. His barn name is “Harley,” and he loves all treats, except apples. He loves carrots the most!

HH: How long have you and Davidson been a team? How did you find each other?

AW: I rode Harley for the first time in February when he met up with us at The Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy TX. I rode him on Tuesday schooling day, and then showed him the next day in the 3’3″ Greens. We were Champion both weeks we showed in the 3’3″ Greens, won both Green Incentive classes and both 5K National Hunter Derbies.

HH: What do you currently show in?

AW: He currently does the 3’3″ Greens and the National Hunter Derbies.

HH: What makes Davidson such a great addition to your barn?

AW: Harley is very brave and is a quick study! He has a lovely rhythmical way of going with a super jump. He is very easy going and needs very little prep to get to the show ring. He is very affectionate and is always eager to please.

HH: Does Davidson have any quirks or goofy traits?  How is he around the barn?

AW: He loves his turnout time and sometimes he is just too impatient to get at the green grass and will try to take off before his halter is off. He can only have standing wraps on behind as he will eat off his front ones.

HH: What are your goals for the rest of the year and beyond with Davidson?

AW: We just got back from the USHJA Green Incentive Final in Lexington, KY, where he ended up in the top 30. He will finish the year in the 3’3″ Greens and also compete in the National Hunter Derbies. Next year he will step up to the 3’6″ Greens and will again go to KY for the finals as they are adding both the 3’6″ & 3’9″ Greens into the Incentive Program beginning in 2018. He will do the International Hunter Derbies in the future. In addition, his owner Dana hopes he can be her A/O Hunter.

HH: What successes have you shared with Davidson? Anything in particular you are especially proud of?

AW: This year Davidson has won numerous 3’3″ Green Championships, 3′ National Derbies and finished in the top 30 in Kentucky. At the Green Finals he won bonuses for High Point American Bred Horse and High Point Texas Super Series Horse. He just won the $27,500 Texas Super Series Finals with scores of 89 and 86.

HH: What do you enjoy most about riding Davidson?

AW: I enjoy most about him, his focus and his desire to be the Star!

HH: If Davidson was a teenager, which table would he sit at in the cafeteria and why?

AW: He would probably sit at the smart kids table reading a book.

HH: What are Davidson’s favorite treats?

AW: Carrots! Which he loves to do his stretches for.

Have Yourself a Very Equestrian Christmas

There is perhaps no look that speaks more of luxury and old world style than that of the equestrian influence – It represents a lifestyle that celebrates and embraces the outdoors, tradition and sport, as well as one of class, elegance and culture. There’s a reason the equestrian look never fades from the public eye – The lines are classic and sturdy, timeless. The look is strongly masculine but with graceful undertones – like the creature itself, strong agile, nimble. The colors, elegance and masculinity that is so often associated with this decor, the deep jewel tones, bronzes, and plaids lend themselves perfectly to Christmas decor. Below, some very simple yet sophisticated ideas for both home and barn.
